The use of a plastering float on the microcement surface is optional and solely depends on the application method followed by each craftsman. The application of the decorative mortar DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN On properly prepared surfaces, the product is applied with a stainless steel trowel, in one or two coats of 1-2mm thick each one. The second coat follows after the first one has dried. On large surfaces, the application method is by almost immediately pressing on the product’s surface with a stainless steel trowel in different directions. On smaller surfaces, and once the product had time to set, lightly wet the surface of the trowel with water spray and then press it with the stainless steel trowel in different directions. The application is done from the bottom up or by working in the same direction, making sure not to leave no gaps or excess product. The surface is smoothed (to the grain size) while the product is still fresh. Remanence that has fallen on the floor can be reused, as long as it does not contain foreign bodies. Frequent mixing during application is recommended, without adding any water. Application system of two microcements For applications where the need for filling, or the creation of pitch, forces us to work in greater coat thicknesses than 10-15mm (maximum application thickness for most microcements), a first coat using the classic microcement DS-250, and a final smooth and flexible surface coat using DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN is recommended. In cases where high mechanical strength and a smooth, flexible, and flawless finish are required, the application of a first coat using DS-254 IRON and a final surface coat using DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN is recommended. Accordingly, in applications with higher specifications for flexibility, but also for a smooth and flawless finish, the application system of a first coat using DS-252 FLEX and a final surface coat using DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN is recommended. In all three systems of applying two microcements, the first microcement coat must be applied to a thickness of approximately 2mm less than the final desired thickness. In the thick first coat, encase the fiberglass mesh DS-4160, for reinforcement and peace of mind. Allow for the first coat (with the encased fiberglass mesh) to dry for 24 hours. To maintain color stability and ease of use, apply one coat of the micromolecular stabilizer AQUAFIX, diluted up to 50% with water. The system is completed with a top coat of DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN, as instructed on the application method above. The application of the microcement in paste form DS-258 DECO MICRO FLEX The microcement in paste form was created for applications where there is a necessity for thin, smooth coatings, but with exceptional decorative interest. This one-component, ready-to-use product is applied with wonderful ease, using a stainless steel straight edge trowel, in thicknesses of 1.2 to 1.4mm, depending on the type of substrate. One to two coats yield highly decorated surfaces with resistance to expansions and contractions and daily use. It presents excellent bonding ability, it covers small cracks, and is an ideal solution for fast renovations, as it dries quickly and can be coated with protection varnishes, even the following day from its application completion. It works as an exceptional repair product on surfaces of applied microcements that have failed and present surface cracks. Light sanding of the final, top surface after its full cure, is optional and, if chosen or necessary, it is done with fine-grained abrasive materials. When applying the microcement paste on interior floor surfaces, the use of the DS-258 DECO MICRO FLEX HARDENER is necessary to be added into the microcement paste.
